About

Photographer, Roman, stubbornly early riser. For over ten years I've photographed Rome in the hours when the city isn't performing.

I started by photographing the alleys of Trastevere before dawn, when the cobblestones are still wet and the light is scaled to the stone. From there came the assignments: events, portraits, interiors for real estate agencies. And then the part I love most today: teaching.

In my workshops I take small groups to the same places where I learned, at the right hour. In private lessons I work on the photos of the person in front of me, not on slides. My idea of teaching is simple: technique is learned fast when it serves a photo you truly want to make.

I shoot Nikon with three prime lenses, by choice. In my bag there's always a 14-24mm, a tripod and the conviction that good light is worth the alarm clock.

I co-founded WeShoot, a photo travel community with workshops in Italy and abroad. For workshops in Rome and Tuscany you book directly on marcocarotenuto.com; on WeShoot you'll also find other coaches and destinations.
