Rome night landscape photography: artificial light and shadow

Six hours of night landscape photography between Monti, Colosse, San Pietro and the Esquilino: neon, signs, mixed light and fearless high ISO.

The city changes skin after sunset. We start from the Monti district and walk down towards the Esquilino photographing signs, shop windows, people in the mixed light of streetlamps and bars. We work on three things: exposing in hard conditions without flash, using shadow as a subject, approaching people with respect. Bring a fast lens; if you don't have one, I'll lend you one of mine.

Frequently asked questions about this workshop

What gear should I bring?

Any camera with manual controls works. For night street I recommend a fast lens (f/2.8 or wider); if you don't have one, I'll lend you one of mine. For Val d'Orcia you'll need a tripod.

What level do I need to be?

Workshops marked "all levels" welcome complete beginners. The small group lets me follow someone starting from zero without slowing the others down.

Where do we meet?

You receive the exact meeting point by email after booking, with a map and precise time based on the light on your chosen date.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain, we shoot. Real bad weather, I move the date and offer you the first available one; if you can't make it, I refund 100%.

What's included in the price?

Guided shooting in the field, a shot review at the end of the session and 30 days of email support after the workshop. Transport and meals not included unless stated.
